Hello girls,
I hope you are all well and that you enjoyed Sports Day. Thank you for sending pictures of your activities, it was great to see everyone looking so healthy and happy.
Also thank you for sending your ‘Once Upon a Time..’ stories. I really enjoyed reading them and I know others will too in years to come.
As this is your last week in third class Ms. Meaghar and I thought it would be fun to dedicate this week to creating Art. I know many of you are drawing and being creative a lot of the time, but we have a challenge for you that will hopefully introduce you to some famous pieces of Art in a fun way.
It is called the ‘Getty Museum’ Art challenge and, to put it simply, you have to choose a piece of Art and try to recreate it using items you find outside or around your house! Here is a link to the website explaining the challenge in more detail
https://blogs.getty.edu/iris/getty-artworks-recreated-with-household-items-by-creative-geniuses-the-world-over/
Take a look at some of the famous pieces of art on this website and choose one that catches your eye!
http://www.getty.edu/art/collection/
Below are some examples of other people’s recreations. Be as adventurous as you want, remember it’s just for fun and it doesn’t have to be exactly the same.
I am really looking forward to seeing your creations and sharing them on the blog. Enjoy your last week ‘at school’.
Best wishes,
Ms. Moore
Hello everyone,
I hope you are all well and happy. It’s hard to believe that we are nearly finished third class!
This week we will be holding a sports day on Friday. The activities for the sports day will be listed at the end of the blog. I would love to see some photographs of you taking part in our Sports day. Feel free to change some of the activities and of course you can add some of your own!
For the last two weeks we will not be doing anymore writing activities. Instead we will focus on reading in both English and Irish. We will continue with a little bit of Maths just to keep you practicing what you have learned.
Enjoy Sports Day girls and have a wonderful week!
Best wishes
Ms. Moore

- Charlotte’s Web: There are activities for each chapter of Charlotte’s web in our own little workbook which we only barely got to start in school (The workbook which you got to design the cover of). (With all this helping around the house you might not even have to ask about helping anymore and can do all the cleaning yourself :D :D )
- English - Readtheory.com – Continue using this website which will improve your reading and comprehension skills. If this is your first week using this website you can sign up to this website for free. This is very similar to the SRA comprehensions that we do in school. Once signed up, you will complete a sample comprehension. This will figure out the correct level for you. Once complete, you can start reading as much as you like. Even better you’ve to try and beat your personal best when answering the questions. A fun way to read more every day.
- Gaeilge – practice your reading in Gaeilge by scrolling back through our Bua na Cainte (Green book) book online which is available at edcolearning.ie (username: primaryedcobooks password: edco2020). Pick a different story each day and practice reading it out loud. To challenge yourself even further try and translate the story into English orally.
- Gaeilge: Choose a cartoon of your choice to watch throughout Irish. https://www.tg4.ie/en/player/categories/childrens-tv-shows/
- Watch an episode of News2Day https://trte.rte.ie/news2day/
- Tables – You can never spend too much time practicing your tables. If you are looking for more to do continue to practice your tables and saying them off by heart! The Hit the Button game is brilliant and you can continue to try and beat your personal best. Why not play table champions with your family and see who wins?
- Extra: Activity of your choice from extra work blog post (Great selection on school website as well of extra work activities).
Worksheets and Resources Needed for this Week's Work.

Hello girls,
I hope everybody has enjoyed the wonderful weather we have had over the last few days.
We have reduced the work again this week. There is no written work with Charlotte’s Web this week, very little written work for Gaeilge and also no more handwriting workbook. You can practice your handwriting whilst completing the worksheet I mention below J. For Charlotte’s Web, I would like you to either listen to the audio books or read a chapter a day.
The school are also completing an exciting project to mark the times that we are living in. Each class are gathering a piece of work which will then be brought together into one big book. This book will go down in history explaining what it was like during this pandemic which we are currently living through.
Also if you want to be part of the largest P.E. class in Meath take a look at the poster on the blog. It will be on 24th June at 11 a.m., but you do need to get your parents to register you if you want to join in! You don’t have to take part, but it sounds like it will be fun.
If you would like to have a page in this book you will have to email the worksheet back within the next 2 weeks. I will then print this off from my computer and gather them all together. It is very important that you email this to me to make sure it is included.
I have explained the worksheet in more detail under Monday’s homework section :D.
Have a wonderful week :D.
Talk to you soon,
Ms. Moore

Hello girls,
I hope you all had a wonderful bank holiday weekend. We have been so lucky with the weather, it has been so warm and sunny all weekend!!
As we have now officially entered the last month of school (feels weird saying that even because we’ve had to spend so much time apart already) myself and Ms. Meagher will be gradually reducing the amount of work we have been doing. Our Gaeilge has slightly reduced this week as well as your English activities. There are also a range of optional extras if you would like extra work to complete.
If you have gotten up to any nice activities this week or have work that you have completed at home that you are particularly proud off please send it on.
Have a wonderful week :D.
Talk to you soon,
Ms. Moore

Talk to you soon,
Ms. Moore

- RTÉ School Hub – This is a great resource for you to revise various topics covered throughout the school year and potentially some new content also. There will be an hour of ‘classes’ broadcast from 11am to 12 noon Monday – Friday. There will also be a RTÉ Home School Extra program at 4.15pm where children’s work which has been sent in will be broadcast on the television.
- TG4 / Cúla 4 – From Monday the 20th of April, they will be broadcasting an Irish lesson daily between 10am and 10.30am. This could be really helpful to hear the language being spoken again and to improve your Irish skills (This can be slightly difficult but it will be helpful to hear the language being spoken).
Worksheets and Resources Needed for this Week's Work.
Hi girls,
Spellbound was added in this week by mistake. The good news is you're finished this book so well done! The English work this week is focused on our class novel 'Charlotte's Web'.
Take Care,
Ms. Moore
Hello girls,
I hope you had a lovely weekend and that you got outside to play in the fresh air!
Normally at this time of year we would be going on school tours, having sports days and getting ready for the Summer break from school. So, from now until the end of the school term we will be putting up less suggested written homework for you to do. Instead you will have time to take more notice of the beauty of nature around us, time to play, time to go on walks with your family and of course time to help with jobs around the house!
For reading we are going to continue with ‘Charlotte’s Web’. We will make the pdf available to you and also you can listen to it being read aloud on youtube. The details are below. So, maybe read it one day and listen to it being read aloud the next day. It’s always fun to hear someone reading a story with expression, it makes it even more enjoyable!
There will still be suggestions of additional work for those of you who really want to keep doing written work, but remember that it is okay to play and spend time with your family. Once you are still smiling and healthy you are doing great!
Best wishes,
Ms. Moore

Here is the homework for this week. Remember just to do your best with it, only do what you can. If you are finding that you are getting through the daily work quickly please choose some of the extra work activities which I have listed at the end of the blog post.
I hope you all enjoyed your audio book last week. This week we have switched back to looking at another Maths topic. Our maths topic this week is ‘3D shapes’. I hope you have fun learning about all the different 3D shapes this week.
Try your best to correct your Master Your Maths, Table Toppers, Bua na Cainte, Reading Zone and Spellbound each Friday. This will give you a great chance to learn from your mistakes if you have any .
We would love to get some pictures of your 3D shapes activities (could be pictures of you playing the games either or on a 3D shape hunt - why not get other people in your house involved in the hunt), your art activities and any other fun activities which you have gotten up to at home sent into us this week please.
Have a super week and I look forward to getting some more e-mails this week!
Best wishes,
Ms. Moore

Optional extra work for week 8:
· Free-writing: Your free writing topic this week is ‘A Day as a Principal’. Please don’t forget capital letters, fingers spaces, full stops, paragraphs and most importantly to read over your writing to make sure it makes sense :).
· Planet Maths (Online book available on folensonline.ie – For those of you who haven’t done so already go to FolensOnline.ie and click ‘register’ and select ‘teacher’. Fill in a username, email, and password. For 'Roll Number' use ‘Prim20’) – If you would like extra Maths work this week complete page 124 & 125 (Emma’s Kitchen) over the course of the week.
· Reading: This is such a great opportunity to create that love of reading. When I find a book I love, I often find it hard to pull myself away from the book! I could be sitting reading it for hours! I have only suggested 20 minutes of reading in your daily work but you can go over and beyond with this as well! I could often spend hours reading a book if I really loved it :) If you prefer you could listen to an audio book online either, this is also a great way to learn! There are lots of free books available online.
· Gaeilge – practice your reading in Gaeilge by scrolling back through our Bua na Cainte (Green book) book online which is available at edcolearning.ie (username: primaryedcobooks password: edco2020). Pick a different story each day and practice reading it out loud. To challenge yourself even further try and translate the story into English orally.
· Gaeilge: Choose a cartoon of your choice to watch throughout Irish. https://www.tg4.ie/en/player/categories/childrens-tv-shows/
· Watch an episode of News2Day https://trte.rte.ie/news2day/
· Tables – You can never spend too much time practicing your tables. If you are looking for more to do continue to practice your tables and saying them off by heart! The Hit the Button game is brilliant and you can continue to try and beat your personal best. Why not play table champions with your family and see who wins?
· Extra: Activity of your choice from extra work blog post
If unable to access Bua Na Cainte or Planet Maths, here are screenshots of the pages mentioned in this week's homework along with all other homework.
For Maths this week please continue with Master Your Maths, but test 25 and not unit 31 as it appears below.
Remember all homework is just a suggestion and you should just do your best with all of it.
Take care

Homework Suggestions for Week 8 – Monday 18th – Friday 22nd of May:
Completely optional extra work for the week can be found at the end of this blog post.
Monday 18th:
- Spellbound: Unit 32 - Part A & B - Learn spellings from this unit
- Table Toppers: Unit 24 - Day 1
- Master Your Maths: Unit 31
- Tables: Revise all multiplication tables. Continue to learn all division tables. Try and beat your own personal best on the 'Hit the Button' website.
- Reading Zone: Unit 30 – Read story and answer part A (answer in copy - full sentence)
- Diary: Write a diary entry. If you are finding it difficult to have a new entry each day, you can write a weekly entry instead.
-
Extra Maths: This week we will be looking at 3D shapes. Two weeks ago we were searching the house for 2D shapes which are flat shapes. This week we will be looking for 3D shapes. These are shapes which you can pick up and hold.
- We will be thinking about the following:
- The name of the 3D shape:
- Real-life object that is this shape:
- How many faces does this shape have (large flat area).
- Are the faces curved or flat.
- How many edges does this shape have (long side all around the face).
- How many corners does this shape have (pointy part where two edges meet).
- I would also like you to look at your 3D shape and see what different 2D shapes are in your 3D shape.
- Finally, you will be looking at the 3D shape and seeing if they stack or if they roll (Some shapes can do both).
- We will be thinking about the following:
- Take a tour of your house and write down all the different 3D shapes you can find. (There will be a poster at the end of this blog post with different 3D shapes on it to help you with their correct names and spellings.)
-
Gaeilge – An Teilifís (Theme: The Television) – Bua na Cainte page 124 – An Seomra Suí (The Sitting Room) –Léigh na focail sa phictiúr trí nó ceithre uair (read the words in the picture 3 or 4 times).
- Bhain úsáid as teanglann.ie chun an Béarla a fháil ar na focail ón bpictiúr agus scríobh iad I do chóipleabhar. (Use teanglann.ie to look up all the words from the picture in English and write them down in your copy e.g. ríomhaire = computer ).
- Léigh na ceisteanna ag deireadh an leathanaigh agus déan iarracht iad a fhreagairt ó bhéal (Read the questions at the bottom of the page and try to answer them orally – no writing).
-
Reading activities:
- Practice reading the poem ‘The Crocodile’ by Roald Dahl. Try to practice reading the poem as dramatically as possible. Pretend like there is an audience in front of you that you are trying to engage. (There will be a picture of the poem at the end of this blog post). I LOVED practicing this poem at home, you can have great fun being as dramatic as you like!
- 20 minutes of your own book of choice.
- P.E. – Activity of your choice from P.E. blog post or your favourite type of exercise for 30 minutes. There are some great activities for active schools week on the school website as well, take a look at these for some new ideas :).

- Reading Zone: Unit 30 – Read story and answer part B & C (answer in copy - full sentence)
- Diary: Write a diary entry.
-
Extra Maths: Using the list of 3D shapes which you found around your house yesterday, I would like you to describe each of them using the following headings. Pick a minimum of four 3D shapes to describe but you are more than welcome to do as many as you like if you want to do more than four. I will give you an example below.

Extra Maths: You will need help from another person for the first part to today’s game.
- Step 1: Gather a few different 3D shapes from around the house.
- Step 2: Close your eyes and ask the other person to choose a 3D object and hand it to you.
- Step 3: By only feeling the object, it’s curved faces, flat faces, edges, corners etc. you will have to guess what 3D shape you have in your hand.
- You can then swap roles and ask the other person to close their eyes and you could hand them the object. If they are finding it hard, you could give them clues such as telling them how many edges the shape has or how many faces the shape has.
- After you have played this game, I would like you to complete the worksheet attached at the bottom of this blog’s post called Thursday’s Maths Sheet. (If you don’t have a printer, don’t worry. Suggested Homework 11th-15th May
Good morning girls,
I hope you all had a great Bank holiday weekend last week. It was great to see the sunshine once again!!
Here is the homework for this week. Remember just to do your best with it, only do what you can. If you can read more than usual then that would be wonderful as it’s really important to keep up with your reading. Try books you haven’t tried before, there are so many available online. Don’t forget that there are also lots of audio books available online for free. It’s very relaxing to pop on headphones and listen to someone else reading a story! This week in our work we have included an audio book called ‘The Dastardly Deeds of Professor Nasty’. Let me know what you think of it!
Have a great week and I look forward to getting some more e-mails!
Best wishes,
Ms. Moore

Once you have drawn your flip flops decorate them any way you choose. I’ll be looking forward to seeing some pictures of your creations. Click on the link for an instructional video. Good luck!
- Diary: Write a diary entry.
- Extra activity of your choice from extra work blog post.
- Online games: Choose a Maths game and an English game of your choice and practice your skills for 20 minutes.
Online Games:
- https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button - tables (addition, subtraction, division and multiplication)
- https://mathsframe.co.uk/en/resources/resource/119/find_the_start_time# - time (this is one of many time games available on this website - some of the games can be quite hard but you can modify the level - no doubt Eva will love a challenge :) )
- https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/daily10 - This is kind of a mix and match of different maths topics.
- https://www.coolmath4kids.com/manipulatives/pattern-blocks - tangrams game. We had only just started learning about 2D shapes when the schools had to close. This is a great game where Eva can choose a puzzle and she has to try and create that picture by dragging different 2D shapes onto the screen.
- https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/7-11-years/ordering-and-sequencing-numbers - this is a general link to lots of different maths games.
- http://www.ictgames.com/mobilePage/lcwc/index.html - Spelling game
- https://www.topmarks.co.uk/english-games/7-11-years/spelling-and-grammar - link to a range of English spelling and grammar-based games.
- SPHE – Family time – ask your parents if you can help them with anything today, it could be housework, feeding your pet or maybe even helping to cook the dinner? (With all this helping around the house you might not even have to ask about helping anymore and can do all the cleaning yourself :D :D )
· Gaeilge: Choose a cartoon of your choice to watch throughout Irish. https://www.tg4.ie/en/player/categories/childrens-tv-shows/
· RTE School hub – If you haven’t watched all the super daily lessons you can watch them back on the RTE Player https://www.rte.ie/player/series/rt%C3%A9-home-school-hub/SI0000006854?epguid=IP000065950
· Tables – You can never spend too much time practicing your tables. If you are looking for more to do continue to practice your tables and saying them off by heart! The Hit the Button game is brilliant and you can continue to try and beat your personal best. Why not play table champions with your family and see who wins?
· Free-writing: Mixed-up fairy-tale. Choose your two favourite fairy tales and scramble them up to create your own brand new fairy-tale :)

Corrections 5th May
Hi girls,
I hope everyone is happy and healthy and keeping busy at home. Thank you to everyone who sent me e-mails, it was lovely to hear your news!
This week we start our week with a bank holiday. So on Monday enjoy a lovely lie in, plenty of playing and taking part in family activities that you all enjoy!
With your homework this week we have added the handwriting back in to complete two pages this week along with a nature hunt for science. You will find the nature hunt in the optional extra work section. We’re also asking you to listen out for environmental sounds when you are out on your walk. We will explain this a bit more in the homework layout below.
If you need any help at all please email me :). If you are able to you can email pictures of your diary entries, projects, art work, nature hunt worksheet or any other fun activities which you have gotten up to and I will upload them onto the blog. Have a lovely week everyone.
Please remember that you are only ever expected to do your best with the work. If you cannot do some or all of it please don’t worry, just try your best.
Have a great week and take care.
Best wishes,
Ms Moore

If you are doing this activity with your brother or sister, why not print off a checklist for them too :). Pick a nice sunny day for this activity :). Have a read of the worksheet before you head off to glance over what different parts of nature you are trying to spot :). You will need your worksheet and a pencil for this activity. After you have spotted most of what is on your worksheet (don’t worry if you can’t find them all) I would like you to sit down for a few minutes somewhere along your nature hunt and simply listen. Listen for as many different sounds as you possibly can, they could be loud sounds, quiet sounds, sounds that are close by or sounds that are far away. Make a list of all these sounds on the back of your worksheet. Most importantly enjoy your nature hunt :).

Hello Girls,
Myself and Ms. Meaghar are trying our best to come up with art activities that we know you will have the resources for at home. This week, we are asking you to get creative with newspaper. We would love for you to create an animal out of newspaper and using markers then to colour/draw on their eyes, nose and mouth. If you have coloured paper you can then glue down your creation onto a coloured background. Don’t worry if you don’t have any coloured paper you can just colour in a white sheet :). We will upload a few pictures to show you a few examples and to help get your creative juices flowing. As always we would love to see a picture of your creation at the end of the week!
Best Wishes,
Ms. Moore

You can self-correct your working using a red pen (if you have one - different colour is fine if not).
