Hello Everyone :) ,
I hope everyone had a lovely weekend and had a nice break from school work this weekend. J It was great to hear from some of you during the week. I am so happy to hear how you are all getting on and that you are all happy and healthy :D.
Myself and Ms. Moore have decided to take a little break from handwriting this week and we’ve added in a bit of extra Maths and a poem. We’re going to be looking at 2D shapes in maths which we briefly touched on before we left school :).
Each Friday, myself and Ms. Moore will upload the answers to Bua na Cainte, Spellbound, Master Your Maths, Table Toppers and Reading Zone so there will be no need to email this work onto us. If you self-correct this work using a red pen (if you have one) and any answers that are wrong just write in the correct answers in red pen above.
As well as the isolation booklet for children, I have also found one for adults so if you would like either of these booklets just send me an email :).
I have added in some new games which can be played on either a computer or an IPad in the optional extra work section. There are games here to practice all topics in Maths and practice your grammar and spelling in English.
Some parents had mentioned this week that they were having difficulty accessing Bua Na Cainte online. I have contacted the company and the log in details for parents are Username: primaryedcobooks Password: edco2020 There are no capital letters in either the username or password. The direct link to the book/website is here https://www.edcolearning.ie/Book/Page?bookId=book750&chapterId=chapter15&pageId=page120 .
I will continue to take screenshots and attach them to the blog post just incase there are still issues accessing the website :). There will also be screenshots of the pages from Planet Maths for the optional extra work.
If you need any help at all please email me :). If you are able to, you can email pictures of your work on 2D shapes, projects, art work, poster or any other fun activities which you have gotten up to and I will upload them onto the blog. Have a lovely week everyone.
As always you are only ever expected to try your best with the work girls :).
Best wishes,
Ms Meagher :)

Optional extra work for week 5:
- SPHE – Family time – ask your parents if you can help them with anything today, it could be housework, feeding your pet or maybe even helping to cook the dinner? (With all this helping around the house you might not even have to ask about helping anymore and can do all the cleaning yourself :D :D )
- SESE Project/Poster – 2nd week of 2 week project - For all of March we were going to be researching and investigating the importance of caring for our environment. Since everyone has been asked to stay at home and mind ourselves we have seen a great reduction (less of) pollution in the world’s environment. In Venice alone (city in Italy where you can travel through the streets on a boat) the water has become clear for the first time and dolphins have even returned to the city. The air is free from pollution which can be seen by the astronauts in space. If you have extra time this week and next, I would like you to complete a project or design a poster on ‘Caring for our Environment’. Think about what we could do to protect our World’s environment. What could we do to help? Have you heard about any changes in nature since humans have been in lockdown? I can’t wait to see your projects or posters and remember you have 2 weeks to complete it :D
- Planet Maths (Online book available on folensonline.ie – For those of you who haven’t done so already go to FolensOnline.ie and click ‘register’ and select ‘teacher’. Fill in a username, email, and password. For 'Roll Number' use ‘Prim20’) – If you would like extra Maths work this week complete page 76 – 79 (Day at the Funfair & Mental Maths 3) over the course of the week.
- RTÉ School Hub – This is a great resource for you to revise various topics covered throughout the school year and potentially some new content also. There will be an hour of ‘classes’ broadcast from 11am to 12 noon Monday – Friday. There will also be a RTÉ Home School Extra program at 4.15pm where children’s work which has been sent in will be broadcast on the television.
- TG4 / Cúla 4 – From Monday the 20th, they will be broadcasting an Irish lesson daily between 10am and 10.30am. This could be really helpful to hear the language being spoken again and to improve your Irish skills.
- English - Readtheory.com – Continue using this website which will improve your reading and comprehension skills. If this is your first week using this website you can sign up to this website for free. This is very similar to the SRA comprehensions that we do in school. Once signed up, you will complete a sample comprehension. This will figure out the correct level for you. Once complete, you can start reading as much as you like. Even better you’ve to try and beat your personal best when answering the questions. A fun way to read more every day.
- Reading: This is such a great opportunity to create that love of reading. When I find a book I love, I often find it hard to pull myself away from the book! I could be sitting reading it for hours! I have only suggested 20 minutes of reading in your daily work but you can go over and beyond with this as well! I could often spend hours reading a book if I really loved it :) If you prefer you could listen to an audio book online either, this is also a great way to learn! There are lots of free books available online.
- Gaeilge – practice your reading in Gaeilge by scrolling back through our Bua na Cainte (Green book) book online which is available at edcolearning.ie (username: primaryedcobooks password: edco2020). Pick a different story each day and practice reading it out loud. To challenge yourself even further try and translate the story into English orally.
- Gaeilge: Choose a cartoon of your choice to watch throughout Irish. https://www.tg4.ie/en/player/categories/childrens-tv-shows/
- Watch an episode of News2Day https://trte.rte.ie/news2day/
- Tables – You can never spend too much time practicing your tables. If you are looking for more to do continue to practice your tables and saying them off by heart! The Hit the Button game is brilliant and you can continue to try and beat your personal best. Why not play table champions with your family and see who wins?
- Free-writing: Mixed-up fairy-tale. Choose your two favourite MOVIES and scramble them up to create your own brand new MOVIE :) Have your very own ‘Author’s chair’ in your house and have a dramatic reading of your new fairy-tale for your family. Or EVEN better develop your fairy-tale into a drama/play
- Extra: Activity of your choice from extra work blog post
