Hello girls,
I hope you all had a wonderful week last week and that you all received something nice through your post box :D. I have already begun to receive some great replies through my post box too :D.
As we have now officially entered the last month of school (feels weird saying that even because we’ve had to spend so much time apart already) myself and Ms. Moore will be gradually reducing the amount of work we have been doing. Our Gaeilge has slightly reduced this week as well as your English activities. There are also a range of optional extras if you would like extra work to complete.
Remember it is a bank holiday this week, you would usually be off school on Monday so as normal you will get to spend the day whatever way you wish :D. Try and get plenty of fresh air because I’ve heard the weather is going to be glorious.
If you have gotten up to any nice activities this week or have work that you have completed at home that you are particularly proud off please send it on.
Have a wonderful week :D.
Talk to you soon,
Ms. Meagher

- S.P.H.E. Kindness chain – for each act of kindness you do this week I would like you to write it on a piece of a paper. Once you have finished writing your kindness act use Sellotape, a stapler or glue to turn the piece of paper into a loop. See how long your kindness chain is at the end of the week :). Make sure the strips of paper are thin enough that you can turn them into a loop. I will have a picture and video at the end of this blog post to help you imagine what I am talking about :D.
- Gaeilge: An Teilifís (Theme: The Television) – Bua na Cainte page 130 – An Phictiúrlann (The Cinema) – Léigh an scéal (read the story) – déan iarracht an scéal a léamh as Béarla chomh maith (try to translate the story into English as well). Freagair na ceisteanna ó bhéal (Answer the questions orally – no writing). Léigh an scéal trí nó ceathair uair (read the story 3 or 4 times). Féach ar na briathra ar bhun an leathanaigh, tabharfaidh sé seo cabhair daoibh lena ceisteanna a fhreagairt amárach. (Look at the box with the verbs in it and they will help you answer the questions tomorrow). Má tá deacrachtaí agaibh leis an bhfoclóir bain úsáid as an suíomh idirlíon teanglann.ie (If you are finding it hard to understand the new vocab use the website teanglann.ie – this is a great website which has an Irish to English dictionary and an English to Irish dictionary :) ). https://www.teanglann.ie/ga/ Faigh na focail seo a leanas san fhoclóir agus scríobh iad I do chóipleabhar: scannán uafáis, fathach, fíochmhar, eagla, scread, buartha, grán rósta.

You can either read the chapters or else listen to the audio books which I will attach at the end of this blog post.

Optional extra work for week 9:
- Free-writing: Your free writing topic this week is ‘I would like to go back to school because….. Please don’t forget capital letters, fingers spaces, full stops, paragraphs and most importantly to read over your writing to make sure it makes sense :).
- RTÉ School Hub – This is a great resource for you to revise various topics covered throughout the school year and potentially some new content also. There will be an hour of ‘classes’ broadcast from 11am to 12 noon Monday – Friday. There will also be a RTÉ Home School Extra program at 4.15pm where children’s work which has been sent in will be broadcast on the television.
- TG4 / Cúla 4 – From Monday the 20th of April, they will be broadcasting an Irish lesson daily between 10am and 10.30am. This could be really helpful to hear the language being spoken again and to improve your Irish skills (This can be slightly difficult but it will be helpful to hear the language being spoken).
- Charlotte’s Web: There are activities for each chapter of Charlotte’s web in our own little workbook which we only barely got to start in school (The workbook which you got to design the cover of). You can complete the extra activities for each chapter in this booklet :D as we go through them each week. This week you can complete the activities for chapters 4, 5, 6 & 7 if you like :D.
- Diary: Keep a record of what you have been getting up to each week especially now that the restrictions are starting to lift and we have a little bit more freedom :D. You can write in your diary every day or once a week.
- Planet Maths (Online book available on folensonline.ie – For those of you who haven’t done so already go to FolensOnline.ie and click ‘register’ and select ‘teacher’. Fill in a username, email, and password. For 'Roll Number' use ‘Prim20’) – If you would like extra Maths work this week complete page 148 & 149 (The Playground) over the course of the week.
- Table Toppers: Unit 25 – Counting and dividing by 7 (Monday – Thursday) over the course of the week.
- Online games: Practice your English grammar and spelling as well as all your Maths skills using the above websites (Online games section).
- SPHE: Complete the mindfulness bingo sheet, choose as many items from it each day as you want. They are all really good for your mind.
- SPHE – Family time – ask your parents if you can help them with anything today, it could be housework, feeding your pet or maybe even helping to cook the dinner? (With all this helping around the house you might not even have to ask about helping anymore and can do all the cleaning yourself :D :D )
- English - Readtheory.com – Continue using this website which will improve your reading and comprehension skills. If this is your first week using this website you can sign up to this website for free. This is very similar to the SRA comprehensions that we do in school. Once signed up, you will complete a sample comprehension. This will figure out the correct level for you. Once complete, you can start reading as much as you like. Even better you’ve to try and beat your personal best when answering the questions. A fun way to read more every day.
- Gaeilge – practice your reading in Gaeilge by scrolling back through our Bua na Cainte (Green book) book online which is available at edcolearning.ie (username: primaryedcobooks password: edco2020). Pick a different story each day and practice reading it out loud. To challenge yourself even further try and translate the story into English orally.
- Gaeilge: Choose a cartoon of your choice to watch throughout Irish. https://www.tg4.ie/en/player/categories/childrens-tv-shows/
- Watch an episode of News2Day https://trte.rte.ie/news2day/
- Tables – You can never spend too much time practicing your tables. If you are looking for more to do continue to practice your tables and saying them off by heart! The Hit the Button game is brilliant and you can continue to try and beat your personal best. Why not play table champions with your family and see who wins?
- Extra: Activity of your choice from extra work blog post (Great selection on school website as well of extra work activities).
